Jiri Malek

In 2002, he graduated and obtained a master's degree from FAMU. In the same year, he co-founded the multimedia dance theater group TOW with choreographer Petra Hauerová. Notable productions by TOW include "Nightmare"; "Orpheus"; "The Other Windows"; "Turning Machine"; and "Theory," where he worked as a lighting designer and co-creator.

His camerawork has contributed to award-winning projects such as "Architecture of Czechoslovakia 59-89," nominated for Best Feature Documentary for 2025; "Dálava" (2019), which won the Czech Lion for Best Documentary of the Year 2019; „Solar Eclipse" (2011), which won the Czech Lion for Best Documentary of the Year 2011; "The Copper Age" (2010); "Source" (2005); and "Dust Games" (2001).

In 2011, he received the Virtuoso Awards for Best Camera - Golden Drum for the project Year Zero OFFF, and in 2019, 2024, and 2025, he was nominated for the AČK Award for Best Documentary Camera Work for the films Dálava, the series Architecture of Czechoslovakia 59-89, and the feature documentary Architecture of Czechoslovakia 59-89.

In addition to documentaries, he has worked on significant feature films and series including "Jojo Rabbit," "Extraction 2," "The Gray Man," "The Crow," "The Zookeeper's Wife," "Serena," "Spider-Man: Far From Home," "Burnt by the Sun II," and "The Chronicles of Narnia."

Jiří is also known for his work on music videos. His ability to transition between high-budget films, intimate documentaries, and music videos is a testament to his versatile skills and dedication to the craft of visual storytelling.
